TERTIARY Period
The Tertiary period is the was the first period in the Cenozoic Era. This time period is when large mammals and primitive primates such as primitive whales started to appear. Many different species of mammals that we see today, like rodents and smaller animals, began to become a more popular animal on our earth. Animals like pigs, deer, cats, rhinos, horses, dogs, and bears were evolving and populating. At this point in time there was a lot of modern day birds evolved from the birds from past Eras. South America started getting populated by monkeys same as southern Europe with apes. in conclusion, this period is when we saw most modern day animals that you may even keep in your house as a pet.

Quaternary Period
In the Quaternary Period the first humans (Homo sapiens) evolved from apes and monkeys. Mammoths, mastodons, saber tooth cats, giant ground sloths, and other Pleistocene megafauna were becoming extinct possibly because the Ice Age. A mass extinction of large mammals and many birds happened about 10,000 years ago, probably caused by the end of the last Ice Age. Currently we are in the Quaternary so that means that Human Civilization was started in this period of time.

The picture above is an example of a to scale geologic timeline. Current time is all the way to the left and the begging of Earth is all the way to the right.
